Audio Feature: Claire Zhou (Shō No. 5)

Listen to Claire Zhou read her poem “Cambridge IGCSE Biology Textbook, Chapter 19” from Shō No. 5 (Summer 2024).

“I was studying for a biology exam when I happened across the line “we are, essentially, what we eat.” The concept that the cells in our body are those that could have once formed dinosaurs, and even the earliest forms of life, pushed me to write this poem!”
— Claire Zhou

A girl with dyed brown hair wears a striped blue-white crop top and a black side-bag. She stands in front of racks of clothing.

Claire Zhou is a student currently residing in Suzhou, China. Her poetry has recently appeared in Gulf Coast, Notre Dame Review, Tinderbox Poetry Journal, Puerto del Sol, and elsewhere. She loves baking.

This poem appears in Shō No. 5 (Summer 2024).
