ABOUT THE SITA MARTIN PRIZE
The Sita Martin Prize is named after Shō Poetry Journal’s founding editor, who started Shō in 2001 to promote unheralded poets in her immediate writing community.
The prize-winning poet receives $150 and a one-year subscription to Shō, starting with the following issue.
The winner will be given the opportunity to read their poem (or designate a person to read their poem on their behalf) for an Audio Feature, which will be posted on our social media channels (at least Instagram and Facebook), on SoundCloud, and on our website.
All poems accepted for publication will be considered for the Sita Martin Prize, assuming the eligibility requirements listed below are met.
Eligibility
The Sita Martin Prize is given to honor a poem by an emerging poet who meets the following criteria:
- Does not have a full-length collection published or under contract;
- Is based in the United States and is a valid US taxpayer over the age of 18.
